The inspired Talpey leadership is still very much in evidence today as The Goldenrod's time honored recipes are produced according to exacting standards of care and cleanliness, purity of materials and the pride that four generations of family candy-makers bring to their craft.
Over 100 years later the best show in York Beach is still taking place in the front windows of The Goldenrod. Parents continue the summer tradition of gathering with their children to watch the candy makers perform their taffy-magic. The world-famous Goldenrod Kisses are made fresh daily to the tune of about nine-million pieces of taffy a year, or about one-hundred and thirty thousand pounds....that's sixty-five tons of smooth, sticky, sweet Goldenrod Kisses. Candy lovers are delighted to discover that we also produce a variety of creamy fudges, mouth-watering peanut brittle, caramel corn and chocolaty barks.
Visitors are invited to browse through The Goldenrod's Tea Room Gift Shop or stop at our famous penny candy counter where we still sell candy for a penny a piece.
The Goldenrod tradition of excellence continues in all facets of the operation including our dining room. Our old New England atmosphere of heavy beamed ceilings, oak tables and stone fireplace set the stage whether you're coming in for a breakfast of fresh-squeezed orange juice and homemade blueberry strudel or our extensive luncheon offerings served right through dinner.
The tradition of strolling in off the beach for an irresistible hot fudge sundae or a creamy ice cream soda is still popular, especially with 135 flavors of our homemade ice cream served at our antique, marble soda fountain. You'll always be greeted by one of our over one-hundred staff with a Goldenrod smile, and prompt, efficient service.
It's where salt air and saltwater taffy mix. Take a short walk along the Atlantic Ocean and step back in time to the taste and home-cooking aromas of old New England at The Goldenrod.
